Woo Hoo!!! We Have Power Again!

A little over an hour ago we were able to hook every back to Georgia Power...what a miserable time it had to have been for people without a generator. Even with a small generator, it gets old quick.

It's also time to update the reading list...actually all of these are finished.

This is most of my current reading selection. My big print book, for on the treadmill, is in the car). I thing it's Tess Gerritsen's first novel that was written in 1993.

I just took two books back to the library and only thought of taking a picture when I was at the library (without camera), so...no picture. But I must recored them for my very short memory. They were...Ice Cold by Tess Gerritsen and Don't Look Twice by Andrew Gross.

A little Reading And Very Little Quilting

This book came highly recommended by a member of my guild (on loan from her) and it was indeed quiet an enjoyable read.

I bought a spool of Aurifil thread, which Linda had recommended, and made another quarter log cabin block. Pat advised me to pay close attention to the width of my seams at the end of each seam, since many tend to veer off course at the end. Guilty!! Since all my pieces were already cut out, I wasn't able to use Astrid's suggestion to cut the outside pieces just a tad larger or Linda's suggestion to size my fabric before cutting to aid in piecing accuracy.

I did order a new piecing foot for my machine and it was selling for only $3.75. Now, I did have buy a few more things to get Amazon's free shipping, but hey, I had my eye on that quilt book and pink cutting mat already.

Again...Where Has The Time Gone Since Last I Blogged!?

Time flies when you're having fun and retired!

Right after the kids headed back to Switzerland, I headed out on a four day shop hop excursion. It was the Mystery Harvest Quilt Shop Hop, a tri state hop with shops in southern Ohio, West Virginia and eastern Kentucky. The hop officially had 16 shops but we hit 3 extra (one or two in Tennessee) and we zigged and zagged over 1,400 miles on Interstate roads and back roads (turn right at the goat farm)to get there and back.

What did I learn while on the trip: West Virginia and Virginia are beautiful states, there are some really scary motels out there, I loose my sense of adventure (really sense of humor) after eating mediocre/bad food for too long, I would do a shop hop again.


I signed up for a 2011 BOM quilt (above) at a shop in Ohio (I think) and should start receiving the blocks in a month or so.


Sweetie's SIL bought this book for me when they were here. Since he and his father like a lot of the same authors that I do, he was sure I would like these authors. He was right. The good thing about their books is that most of them don't have to be read in sequential order...this one falls in the middle of the list.


The Guild christmas blocks are done and will be turned in on Tuesday.



I've been working on making HSTs and pinwheels. It's still a work in progress...trying a variety of methods to make HSTs. Also, I made a couple of square in squares.


This past Tuesday, some of the Guild ladies and I headed over to Dahlonega, GA to visit two quilt shops and check out the downtown area. What a cute little town!!! We had lunch at the Oar House, a restaraunt outside Dahlonega, on the banks of the Chestatee River....would love to tube that river some day!

What I Will Be Reading

After quilt guild this morning, I went to the library to get more reading material. This should keep me busy for a week or so.

Speaking of the guild...we made the cutest things (and of course I didn't get a picture)that were of the quilty and recycle nature! We made finger and wrist pin cushions using plastic bottle caps, elastic hair bands, glue, stuffing, and fabric. I will try and get a picture next week. The guild will sell them in a couple of fabric shops, the county fair, and the Apple Festival.

Yesterday, I did my first applique ever. I'm working on a border piece that will go on the quilt that my guild will donate to the Southeastern Quilt and Textile Museum that will open in Carrollton, Georgia during the first quarter of 2011. Yes, that's right....we will have our own Paducah!!!!! I'll post a picture after I get the flower sewn on to the stems.
